AMSC August 2021 News...

This is a message intended for "current" members of AMSC;  it applies to swimmers who were members in March 2020 when we were forced to stop swimming as a club. Please check your email for the message that is included here as well as a request to respond.

This is a brief update to let you know what I know about the possibility of a fall swim season for our club.

I am sorry to say that the City of Hamilton has not given us any morning swim times, so the morning club will not be running.

The evening club has been allocated some rental swim times but we are asking the city to adjust or reconsider those times so that our schedule might be more in line with what will work for our club.

There are many details that are still unsettled about our club plans, as well as other factors that may affect your decision to join:

  • Your comfort level with return to the pool regarding safety in light of COVID-19 and public health guidelines.
  • Club membership cost may well increase and numbers of club members will likely be reduced to meet pool and club capacity guidelines.  Past club members will have “first right of refusal” regarding membership, but some sort of priority system will have to be worked out if there is a high level of interest.
  • Our coaching situation has not been finalized.  There is a POSSIBLITY that some swims will be without a coach on deck.  Alex has agreed to return but may not be available at our scheduled times.
  • Both our actual swim times and the way we swim may be quite different than in the past. For example:  No grouping together at the wall, staggered pause or rest locations for swimmers sharing a lane, facility entrance and exit procedures etc.
  • Our swim times may precede or follow another user group; we will try to limit the “mixing” of groups in the changerooms if possible.
  • Our swim lanes MAY be more crowded than you have become accustomed to at public lane swims (we will definitely be swimming with more than 2 to a lane but I cannot tell you exactly how many at this time). Remember that attending those swims at your convenience MAY be a better option for you both in terms of personal comfort, flexibility and cost.  I have lots of swim workouts that I am happy to share so you can print them and swim at your leisure!
  • The City will implement provincial regulations at the facilities. It is also possible that the club or its’ affiliate organization will either require or strongly recommend that anyone medically able be fully vaccinated with one of the Health Canada approved products.  We will always aim to protect the health of our swimmers and their families.

Please  note that anyone can start a NEW swim club that might better serve their needs. For information contact either MSO  info@MastersSwimmingOntario.ca or Swim Ontario info@swimontario.com
